Novus Architects

Nõvus Architects had already been a client for several years when they decided to change their name from SGM Architects. The departure of several of the partners compelled the name change (the G and the M left to start their own firms), but the new name came from owner Tommy Smith’s insistence that it reflect a fresh start. After many, many suggestions from myself and everyone in the firm, and weeks of debate, we settled upon Nõvus – which is Latin for “new”.

In addition to re-branding the firm with the new logo and stationary package, we have created a number of ads, and marketing materials – brochures, ROP submission materials, presentation materials, Powerpoint presentations, etc. We also created their ADDY winning website. There are a lot of simi-larities between architecture and graphic design. In both cases we have to temper our artistic sensibilities and vision with the client’s needs and preferences, and factor in budget and other fixed variables to create a solution that works for everyone.

We even use some of the same software programs in aspects of our work. So it is only natural that the architects at Nõvus are opinionated and demanding. They know what they want, and have really good ideas. Much of our service these days is more in the consulting area – utilizing our expertise to help them achieve things they want to do themselves – or would do if they had the time.
